Online energy prices drop to £900 a year

Increasing competition among energy suppliers is finally bringing down gas and electricity prices, particularly for online energy deals.

After gas and electricity prices rose by up to 42% in 2008, and only came down by 5% on standard rates in 2009, competition is finally kicking in. Energy suppliers' increasing efforts to win customers from their rivals is bringing welcome respite to UK households.

First:utility, Ovo and Atlantic have all reduced the prices of their internet tariffs in a bid to undercut the competition. This suddenly creates attractive savings opportunities for UK households.

The cheapest online energy tariff now comes in at £907 per year. This is the lowest rate for power and gas in over 18 months. Compared to standard tariffs at around £1,250, this could help most households save £347 a year.
