Energy price war heating up

In a welcome move, both British Gas and E.ON have lowered their tariffs, now on SuperSwitcher!

E.ON has launched a new fixed price online tariff which is now live on our website. This tariff is available to dual fuel and single electricity customers paying by Monthly Direct Debit payment method only. Prices are fixed until 1st December 2010. There is a cancellation fee £30 for dual fuel and £10 for single fuel customers who switch away before the end of the fixed price period.

Compared to comparable offers from E.ON, gas prices on the new tariff are 6.9% cheaper, and electricity prices are 3.7% cheaper. Currently, the tariff appears to be on top in 11 regions across the UK.

Our website is also updated with British Gas's Websaver 4 tariff which has replaced Websaver 3. Customers signing up to WebSaver 4 will receive a minimum 6% discount against British Gas's standard tariff prices until 30th November 2010. There is a cancellation fee of £30 for gas and £30 for electricity if you cancel the contract and switch away from WebSaver 4 prior to 28th February 2010.

Customers must manage their energy account online and receive their bills online, although there is a dedicated telephone number in the event that customers need to contact British Gas.  British Gas also requests the customer to submit their meter readings regularly online. 

Compared to Websaver 3, Websaver 4 gas prices are 2.3% cheaper and electricity prices are 2.5% cheaper.

The news follow earlier moves by EDF and E.ON to lower prices this summer, and a warning by industry regulator Ofgem to fully pass on falling wholesale costs to customers.
